I read somewhere that they rise the prices again from $35 to $45 and you have to pay $5 to go to the lobby if you want to buy anything to eat. spock.gif

But hey, they even have baby-sitting services!

Personally, I think $45.00 is very expensive for anyone to pay just to see ONE MOVIE. But if you consider it, Movietowne is worth it. The location is good, you don't have to pay for secure parking, the snacks are great, there is a wide range of movies for your viewing pleasure, it is a family oriented place (since they offer babysitting services and there is a playing area for young kids) and the seating area for viewing the movie, is very clean and comfortable.

I do not think Movie Towne is worth it at all. It is actually sad that people are willing to pay those ridiculous prices in order to be around a "normal" place. Yet again, in Trinidad everything is about looks so let me go and ride my latest car model to movie towne and return to my rented one bedroom apartment somewhere in the Beetham. rolleyes.gif Trinis in general don't make any sense to me in some aspects. They can say tomorrow we will charge them $100 per movie and they will STILL go like dumbies.

MovieTowne gets casino

IT'S DECIDED. Gambling has come to MovieTowne. Golden Entertainment Private Members' Club won its legal battle yesterday against objections to it being granted a certificate and licence to operate.

I am very disappointed that a casino will be opened in MovieTowne. This takes away the "family friendly" atmosphere from this location. Everything will change and now it will become necessary to increase security since they are putting all the businessmen and patrons at risk. The introduction of this casino is such a terrible idea!

I am not surprised at all by this decision. Everybody knows that gambling is a big thing in Trinidad and with the amount of money people are willing to spend on one night in Movie Towne, the owners have to be literally fools in not adding a casino there!

Rather off topic, but...
A lady I know, worked for three different casinos here in Trinidad. She told me how literally entire families go to gamble as a family "outing".

I just remembered something. It was indicated in the Budget for 2007 that, all gambling casinos were to be closed down. And yet, Mr Derek Chin (owner of Movietowne,) was recently granted a license to open his gambling casino at Movietowne? That does not make any sense!

Geenie, I was thinking the same thing. In fact, it only shows the level of nonsense that abides the standards set by the executive of this country. We not only have earned the title of 'Banana Republic', but we emulate it day by day with our acceptance of these happenings as the norm of life.
