Retrievers Labrador

This is not a surprise to me at all. I currently have a yellow lab puppy and a room mate of mine in the past had a yellow lab also. They are so good kids. A little bit hyper as a puppy but as they grow up they calm down so well and can be one of the most faithful dogs you could own. I am possibly going to be getting a 2 yr old chocolate lab that has yet to be trained yet. I do have great confidence in labs for their obedient nature though. My pup only took about a week and a half to house break and he hasn't had an accident since then and it has been over six months. I love labs and highly recommend them to any one as a pet.

I just wanted to provide an update to bwren's post. We now have four lab dogs total. We still have the yellow lab, Monty. We added 3 more labs to our family. They are very friendly. Monty has calmed down quite a bit since bringing home the three puppies. Monty was very easy to house-train. He has learned to sit and lay down. He is very protective of the backyard and of the other puppies. They have been a joy to have around. I'm amazed how different their personalities are. Monty is the top dog, being the oldest. He keeps the young ones in line when they begin to play fight with each other. Scoot is our fat, happy-go-lucky dog. Missy (our only female) wants to be top dog and can be jealous when we're playing with the others. She has to be right in the middle of the action. M (short for M&M, for Mini-Monty) is the mamma's boy. He never jumps on me. He just walks up and sits next to me wanting to be petted. If anything happens to him, he comes to me for comfort. He was the first of the three to learn to jump on the couch because he was so determined to sit in my lap and have his belly rubbed.

I highly recommend these dogs as pets. biggrin.gif

This was from New Zealand. If I remember correctly, here in the US, the Golden Retriever is the most popular breed of dog, or at least WAS the most popular breed. I do like the labradors and the golden labradors, but my favorite will always be the golden retriever. Needless to say I own a golden currently wink.gif

I have a yellow lab puppy. He just had his first birthday on St. Patrick's day. He is totally wired all the time. Someone tell me this calms down at some point? :laughs:

Trust me, MissMolly. Your puppy will calm down. You just have to remain firm when they try to jump. bwren and I taught our Monty to sit and lay down within a couple of weeks of bringing him home. It was a way to calm him down when he would get to excited. There were times I thought maybe I couldn't handle him, but he has calmed down in the last three months, especially since we brought home three more labs to play with. Having a playmate really burns up their energy, but they do need plenty of room to play. We're fortunate to have a fairly good size backyard to keep them in.
Offtopic but,
I posted quite a bit yesterday about my labs. Scoot gave us a scare yesterday. We didn't completely latch the gate properly so three of the dogs got out. We were inside and all of sudden heard the worst howling in the world. I knew something bad happened. Scoot went over to the neighbors house and tried to play with their pit bull dogs, but got into a fight. When I went outside, I got two of them back in the yard and noticed Scoot missing. bwren went to the neighbors but couldn't find him. I called and saw Scoot pop out of the grass in the field behind our house. He came running and I was relieved. Until when he got closer I noticed he had quite a bit of blood coming out of his mouth and his chest was covered. I was so scared. I got him back in the yard and called for bwren. We cleaned him up. He has several cuts and some swelling around his nose, but the vet assured us he will be just fine. You never know how much you truly love your pets until something bad happens. Your pets become just another member of your family.
