Kryptonians Are Colorful?

Kryptonians Are Colorful?

In some of the comics both in paper and television, Kryptonians are shown to wear very colorful clothes. Would such an advanced society always dress like Carnival? It seems to go against the typical one color look that is shown in most futuristic movies. Also, the criminal elements who survived the Krypton explosion also wear all black. Any thoughts?

Colorful Kryptonians

The good guys always have to be colorful, DC does the same with its villains. Most of the good guys are color full like Superman and Wonder Woman. But even the Joker tends to be one color, purple, except for his face. But when they want to make someone blur the line between villain and hero, they use darker colors too, as with Batman. Its a way of showing visual difference between good and bad.

konquererz is right. That's a theme which seems to be universally applied to heroes and villians.

However, if you're not looking for a Lit 101 type of answer and want to be a real geek, here goes:

Krypton is generally depicted as an ice planet, perhaps the over use of primary colors was a societal attempt to counteract and species-wide case of permanent Seasonal Depression.

We're usually only shown Kryptonians related to Jor-el's life, perhaps it was a sign of academia or intellect, since the villians in black are typically warriors or soldiers.

I'll stop now, but I have more. If this wasn't too irritating I'll return.

Konquererz's take is good, but I will say it is not necessarily the rule, for instance the Riddler.

I like the theory Daddygeek came up with, and will go with the colors being a symbol of significance in society, except that most all of the citizenry would have to be 'special'.

I think colors just appeal to comic readers. If you notice the older comics are like rainbows but now they take on a darker appeal with lots of black representing shadows added.
