MartinR Introduction

Hi, I'm just here to check it out.

I found this site when someone mentioned it on a officer.com forum. I had been recently talking to a friend of mine about trying to start playing role playing games again, and this site looked interesting.

As far as background, I'm 37, married for 2 1/2 years with no kids. I'm a mechanical engineer and part owner of a small consulting engineering business. I also work part-time as a deputy sheriff.

I dabble in martial arts (currently Judo), automotive maintenance, firearms (mostly handguns), reading, philosophy, calligraphy, kayaking (flatwater to mild whitewater), and various other outdoor activities when I find the time.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to focus enough time to join a game, but I'd like to watch and see how it goes. I'm interested mostly in science fiction / future earth RPG's but I'm also interested in D&D type games as well. I played a little D&D, GURPS (space), and Car Wars years ago.

I would like to add my welcome to the forum. It is nice to see someone else standing up for some of the principles I hold dear.

I tried to make pretty much the same arguments you have in the "gun in the house" thread, but wasn't quite as eloquent as you. I have since completely given up on standing for principle in any forums. It isn't worth the effort to me anymore.

I would like to hear more about your experiences as a part-time deputy sheriff. Do you live in a rural or urban area? Do you find yourself very active in this position, or is it fairly laid back?

Finally, what kind of engineering work are you doing? I am a manufacturing engineer for one of the two US auto companies (the bigger one). So, I am interested in all sorts of engineering work, what is happening, what types of things are being developed, etc.
