Iris Scanner Identifies a Person 40 Feet Away:

Police traffic stops are in the news again, tragically, sparking a new round of discussion on whether and how to outfit police with cameras and other technology. Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University's CyLab Biometrics Center have been testing an iris recognition system that can be used to identify subjects at a range of up to 40 feet. Ref. Source 6

So we are born scanned and cataloged....Scary very scary. The technology is interesting though imagine one could secure a location well with a lock that used the scan as a key.

Besides being scared that someone looks into your eyes other than your wife or girlfriend please not that hardened criminals often use disguises to pass through ports and security many times. Having this will eliminate that.

If you think about it this is the most accurate way of identifying anyone because you can't 'fake' an eye. The only breach is if someone kidnaps you or worst takes your eye (Oh my gosh) in order to get access.

I am sure fake eyes will be created just a lot more work. Curvature textures and colours very so greatly and subtly. But combined with voice and finger prints and a code one might do alright.

Its crazy that we have to go through all of this just to get access to something. And no matter how sophisticated we become the criminals are one step ahead. Just now a simple padlock might actually work after all has failed.
