Introduction Candonow

Welcome to the forum.

I have played a lot of RPGs over the years. I know that a lot of LDS think that they are bad, as do a lot of religious people from all sorts of Christian denominations.

However, I simply find that they are great ways to exercise your imagination. It can be like living in a favorite type of story, from fantasy to science fiction to mystery to romance. The nice thing about role playing games, is that unlike many other sorts of games, you are able to develop your character any way you want. So, for example, if you want to have a Paladin (think of Lancelot in Camelot), then you have to consider how all your actions will affect the absolute righteousness that a Paladin requires to exist. Also, if you want to play a Mage of some sort, you have to consider how difficult it is to get all the materials needed in the same place, prepare for the job, and then actually cast the spell and get it right. For this class of character, think of Merlin, Gandalf, etc.

I love RPGs, but usually only play computer based RPGs now. I find that I pit myself against the game creators, trying to see how they have organized things, and how to deal with their designs.

I hope this helps in your quest to understand.

between, I have six children. All three of my boys are really into computer and video games, and all three love the computer and console based RPGs. My daughters are all very comfortable with computers, and also like some sorts of video games, including some gentler RPGs. In fact, two of my children, my oldest son and middle daughter, both work for a video game company in Utah!

I look forward to seeing you around the forum!
