Well, the actual words themselves have the same meaning depending on the era you are speaking of. Goths were a germanic tribal people and gothic was used to describe things related to the Goths. However, today, goth is more of a lifestyle chosen by outcast and rebel kids. It portrays a gloomy and often depressing type of atmosphere that stems from the goth rock music that started it. It really is an extension of choosing to be a longer, separating yourself from everyone else.
