Pets outnumber people in the United States by about 60 million, with furry, feathered and scaly inhabitants numbering about 360 million, according to the pet industry.

About 75% of the people that I know here in the US have pets. I myself have a dog. Pets provide companionship to both adults and children, and here in the US, more people can afford to take good care of pets than in most other countries.
