The Chain: Part 2 Of 3

The Name of the Rose

Ophir, for you I search in vain,
For gold, and silver, despite the pain,
The night is dark, and hear the rain.

Solomons gold lies buried in dirt,
Its where I place my depression and hurt,
My hopes and dreams are silently burnt.

But on the outside resides my rose,
Ever lasting its strength in pose,
I sing of it now in romantic prose.

It sits on the lawn of my greatest tower,
Beautiful, lovely, it sits all alone,
Contest growing by me in my darkest hour,
A their to accept my deepest atone.

The name of the rose is the god of my father,
Trampling down all questions of knowledge,
With out every spec of perfection no bother,
I see with my eyes all absence of knowledge.

Being vain to refuse by dark teachings,
With ever step I grow farther from learning,
But with my heart, the eminent seekings,
And with my mind, its constantly yearning.

The secrets of wisdom are hidden in vain,
I tend to the rose, I've forgotten my name,
To seek after it, my trophies delight,
I huddle to it close, through darkest of night,
No finding, or completing, or seeing the truth,
Fighting for sanity, hook, nail, and tooth.
I am the one who goes where time goes,
For I am the one, who tendeth the rose.

My interpretation of this is based on you looking for spirituality in things of everyday life. Yet it is very difficult to find something that is finite in a world that places value on sight and touch: it takes a different pair of eyes to see the unseen. Maybe I missed something, I will wait for your clarification, but wonderful prose.

Once again, thank you for giving your thoughts on it, that is the high honor any writer can receive, a critique by his friends that is honest.

This version is less about the seeking of enlightenment or truth, though it is that, but more about accepting what you know, and holding on to what you wish for. As all of these poems, if you haven't seen it yet, they are in relation to my own spiritual journey. From here we see I had moved on from unfettered acceptance and joy, to searching and seeking and understanding that I may not find what I am looking for. As I have begun to write these, I realize that I cannot make the jump from where I was to where I am now in three poems, so I will have to end one segway of my life in the chain and then begin another segment in order to get to where I am here.
