"Come out here," they said. "Don't you want to get better?" He stepped out into the hall, full of anxiety. The area seemed to be light but very hazy, and he couldn't make out any details. He followed them shuffling along in his bare feet with the memory of pain in his belly, yet feeling very much alive. The fog thickened as they went on, and it became gradually darker. Overwhelmed with hopelessness, he told them he would go no farther and that they were liars. He could feel their breath on him as they shouted and snarled insults. Then they began to push and shove him about, and he began to fight back. A wild frenzy of taunting, screaming and hitting ensued. As he swung and kicked at them, they bit him.

I have read this story before, and found it very compelling. It was interesting how this man experienced a period of severe anguish before finding peace. I think that this is the norm, not the exception. That is, in order to find real peace, a person must face some anguish.

While I myself do not subscribe to near death experiences being super natural, I must say that an incident like this would be very compelling to believe in a god. I find also that many people, as nighthawk said, seem to experience anguish before peace, and then ultimately coming back to life. These types of emotions holding to someone after they wake up would necessarily cause someone to re evaluate their life.

That's why I think NDE are not by chance, I think some individuals are "blessed" somehow or given a "second chance" to turn their lives around just like in the case of this person. God works in mysterious ways.
