Perhaps it will help, perhaps it won't. I am not sure, however the crime situation in the country goes beyond marijuana and whoever thinks that legalizing marijuana will reduce crime is just but a dreamer.

Isn't Jamaica already doing this and the crime situation hasn't gone down there so I don't see it as helping.

Making marijuana legal in Trinidad will just take away part of the illegal drug trade and give something to the government that they can tax but it won't stop the criminals from committing crime. If the main aim is crime reduction then this isn't the path towards it.

Title: Decriminalization

Comments: I am a citizen of Trinbago and I know that this topic has a way of exciting both overly liberal and overly conservative views.
My current stance on the issue is that when the violent crime situation is constantly spiraling out of control and the police seem to have no plan on dealing with it, they do spend vast amounts of time and resources dealing with large numbers of non violent users with small amounts in their possession. Drug Lords or kingpins are not pursued. Fields are found and burnt but no arrests mad so no accountability once again.
There is a very good opportunity to change the dynamic of life in T&T.
It is a non-lethal substance and most users are non-violent offenders. So as long as the discussion is on the table I ask why make it illegal when things like alcohol and tobacco (Substances that can fatally affect health) are sold and advertised with no moral need to guard the citizenry from those dangers.

With all the senseless murders over drugs you think legalizing marijuana in Trinbago will help? No! They will turn to other drugs, more robberies and human trafficking.

Title: LEGALIZING DRUGS

Comments: Anyone in their right mind would not think that legalizing drugs will be the solution to crime problems here or anywhere else. If this was the solution it would have been already implemented throughout the world, especially in countries like America where the effects of using such drugs are very noticeable and has now become a habit. At present we have a lot of legalized pharmaceutical drugs are on the market and yet the internet is overburdened with faked duplicated but harmful copies of these drugs for sale at knock down prices. Illegal drugs may have been around for centuries but there were then, very few people indulging in personal usage of such illegal substances to satisfy an urge to feel happy or distort their senses. Today many illegal drugs have acquired a reputation for transforming the character and attitudes of human beings driving them to a feeling of superiority and also driving them to do things that are impossible or contrary to normal human behavior. Illegal drugs have been proven to be linked to criminal activities and in practically every nation has been labelled as dangerous and banned. To legalized these dangerous illegal drugs is asking for uncontrollable problems within any society. Just imagine what a difference it would make to the levels of crime and lawlessness throughout the world. Today it is essential that the supply of illegal drugs be kept under strict control, and those who participate in the manufacture and distribution of such drugs be dealt with in a drastic and severe manner in order to stop the expansion of crimes throughout the world.
