Oh, yes definetely. As a teacher, I took away twice a knife and an ice-pick from kid's schoolbags. And believe me, they DO use it.

While metal detectors are ok they will not stop weapons from getting into schools. Many schools that have metal detectors still have a problem with weapons in the school. How the weapons are getting in I am not sure but it shows that if a child wants to get a weapon into school he is going to. Metal detectors are good and will keep some weapons out but there are always going to be some that slip through. I think all middle and high schools should have metal detectors and a officer roaming the halls to further add protection for our kids.

Following up on what was brought up here: Waterloo Secondary School:

international QUOTE (Pandora)
TTUTA doesn't want to see metal detectors in schools unless is absolutely necessary.

Why is TTUTA apprehensive about something that can bring greater security to the school system especially in thee times when school violence is increasing?

In some of the city schools here in the US they have them. They also have a couple of security guards at each exit to make sure no undesirables get in.

I suppose TTUTA is concerned over the image and reputation attached to schools who implement metal detectors. In my view who cares? Put them in place, it is needed!

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tim Gopeesingh, addressed this today. He told reporters that the Ministry have identified 36 high risk schools that they will run trials of a mental detector but they will not subject the entire school population to this. He also mentioned that some principals already have hand mental scanners that they use from time to time.

Yes, I think there should be metal detectors in schools, and in fact I believe there are already metal detectors in some schools, but the problem is the school violence that caused all this.
