I am looking forward to some nourishment in general really, not any specific Doctrine or issue, but just uplifting words. Sometimes you see how dark the world is becoming and you just need to take a brake and get some positivity - a spiritual recharge as it were.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - In 1830, just a handful of people attended the first general conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This weekend, when Church members gather for the 176th year of the event, roughly 12 million members will witness the proceedings, whether by television, radio, or the Internet, or as part of the audience in the 20,644-seat Conference Center. Producing the conference is a master-level feat of organization that includes plenty of challenges.

I also look forward for some words of encouragment and hope. We live in a world full of vice and evil that sometimes as a mother I just do not know how am I going to protect my children from all these dangers. I look forward seeing or listening to President Hinckley, his health seem to be deteriorating.

I'm also looking forward to some edification and fortification. Did anyone else seem to notice this: a couple of the prayers given seemed as if they were eulogizing or saying goodbye to President Hinckley. That was odd. And he did look frail.

I loved the two talks this morning from Robert Hales and Henry Eyring. Wonderful! And I think I will start a topic or two from these.

Pres. Hinckley calls racism 'ugly and unacceptable'

With a smile and signature wave of his cane, President Gordon B. Hinckley opened the first session of the LDS Church's 176th Annual General Conference on Saturday - reserving strong words about racism for an evening gathering of men and boys.

The 95-year-old leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints scarcely used his cane as he walked vigorously in and out of conference sessions, which will attract more than 100,000 people to the Conference Center this weekend. He did not address the opening general sessions but told male priesthood holders Saturday night that racism still "lifts its ugly head," even among church members. That is unacceptable, he said.

"I remind you that no man who makes disparaging remarks concerning those of another race can consider himself a true disciple of Christ," said President Hinckley. "How can any man holding the Melchizedek Priesthood arrogantly assume that he is eligible for the priesthood whereas another who lives a righteous life but whose skin is of a different color, is ineligible?"

The newly called are sustained

Ten men were sustained to the Quorums of the Seventy during Saturday's afternoon session of the 176th Annual Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and another was moved from the Second to the First Quorum. Also named were 17 new Area Seventies, while 16 were released from their positions as Area Seventies.

PRESIDENT HINCKLEY REMINISCES

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The life of a prophet belongs to the entire Church, President Gordon B. Hinckley said Sunday in a reflection on his near-lifetime of service to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His personal recollections highlighted the Sunday morning session of general conference.

176th Annual General Conference Mormon Doctrine Studies

Pres. Hinckley's recant of his life in the Church reminded me a bit of Paul's life synopsis when he tells of all the things he went through. Of course Paul saw a bit more 'action' as it were, but we are not comparing really.

I enjoyed Elder Holland's talk, he is usually a moving speaker.
