A newsletter to which I subscribe is suggesting a test to find out how a catchphrase becomes a catchphrase, and how long it takes to happen. The term they will be searching for is this: Beagle up. It means research, hunt for, sniff out, as in, "I'll Beagle up on that and get back to you." This project will then be monitored by web bots and condensed into a report about linguistic shifts (from which I will share tidbits when I receive them).
If you are so inclined and interested in the outcome, you could use the term Beagle up for the next couple of weeks in your interactions with others, particularly on the internet, and then stop. Let's see what happens internationally with it!
I for one am going to Beagle Up and start using the term as often as possible. I'll make sure to Beagle Up when writing my blog and posting to this forum and other forums, it should be interesting to see how this turns out!
OH, good! I was thinking no one was going to be interested. Personally, I think this kind of stuff is faschinating. I've also begun using it in emails etc, so I'm looking forward to the results. Probably within a month or six weeks.
Thanks, Konq!
This seems like it could be fun. I will use it here at work with the guy who works for me. When I want him to do some research, I will tell him to Beagle it up for me!
