Do you believe that the Templar Knights really worshipped Baphomet? Does he really exist?

Baphomet is an idol or image of uncertain provenance, depicting a being of heretical worship. The name first came to public consciousness during the suppression of the Knights Templar.

I really do not see why the Templars would worship him given their stance on fighting for Christ, etc. In my opinion this was a rumor developed by the King of France as an excuse to gather them up and put them to death. This is covered in the Templar Knights Thread more. For me, Baphomet seems to be a focus symbol for evil and opposite to God and I am sure it would be a fitting emblem for a Satan worshipper.
