Crocodile Hunter: Steve Irwin Killed
I saw him on TV a couple of times and I had that "Feeling" that something like that would happen to him. It is very unfortunate but like they say, when you play with fire..you always end up burned. My deepest sympathies to his family.

I was really saddened to hear of his death too. My Husband and I used to watch his programmes, and I think he brought many people into watching reptiles on tv, who normally wouldn't have had any interest whatsoever in doing so.
He was always so enthusiastic, and kept people entertained.
I feel very sorry for his wife and young son and daughter, but am glad that he didn't suffer.
I was very surprised to hear that he is only the 2nd known death to have occurred through a sting ray, the last death having occurred in 1945.
I will remember him for the way he got a lot closer to these animals/reptiles than anyone else, and always put in 100% effort.

This came very shocking to me. My family as a whole is a big fan of his and have watched his kids grow up on the show on tv. Its so sad, but I think many people "knew" that things would end this way, its likely the way he would have wanted it. He would have wanted to go out doing what he loved doing. My thoughts are with the family, its a sad day for nature program lovers and lovers of the unique entertainment and education the croc hunter brought to our lives.

Dad Says 'Crocodile Hunter' Suffered
In the Australian Broadcasting Corp. interview, Bob Irwin, 68, said audiences failed to realize how much pain his khaki-clad son masked during his public performances. He gave no details of the reasons for his son's private suffering. "People don't realize just how much he gave of himself," his father said. "He was always very good in front of the media, and a lot of the pain and the suffering didn't show through."

I understand PETA wants to make a point but even as a vegan I don't always agree with how they go on the attack. I think they can make more inroads if they try to build on common concerns and gradually help people see how the mistreatment of animals is wrong rather than throwing grenades and bombs because for Australia Steve Irwin was a national icon.
