Thanks for your inquiry. I just work with what Jesus taught and that is in the New Testament. That is why I am telling the author of this book to focus on the words of Jesus. The Jews had the Old Testament before Jesus and look what it did for them.

I see, so are you one that says the old testament no longer applies? As I can accept that, it was an often held belief of early christians including Marcion.

That is correct, the only thing worthwhile about the Old Testament now is the stories of how the prophets and people of the time persevered. We are not meant to follow the ways of the Old Testament. This is why I am saying to the author that Jesus saves so he does not need to flog a dead horse.

Saved, I'll ask you again in a different way, if the Old Testament is just a "dead horse" to you, then why do you get so upset if I want to "flog" it? My guess is you haven't read nearly all of my book, but you want to tell me how wrong I am. If you're interested in the final outcome of the book I can arrange for you to buy a copy, but till you read the whole book, I would like to invite you to go play in somebody elses back yard. I spent 14 years researching and writing, so I have no doubt at all, not even a shred of doubt, that I am right.

I am not upset at all. I just joined this community and no, I have not read your book, but I have read the Bible and so I am sharing my thoughts about what I know about it. Telling me to play somewhere else is really rude. Isn't this a place for discussion? Just because you don't like to know that Jesus can save you want to persecute me for it? You must be a really unhappy soul, do not worry though, I am not scared off so easily and I will pray for you.

Mousetrails - The First Holy War

All Bible quotes are from the Douay-Catholic Bible

Then God came to Abimalech in a dream and told him he was going to die for taking Sara. When Abimalech protested, God told him,

QUOTE
"I know you have done this with a sincere heart. It was I who kept you from sinning against me; therefore I did not allow you to touch her." Then Abimelech took flocks and herds and cattle, men and women servants, and gave them to Abraham and restored Sara his wife to him and said," My land is before you; settle wherever it pleases you. Then Abraham prayed to God; and God cured Abimelech and his wife and maidservants, and they bore children For THE LORD HAD CLOSED THE WOMBS of Abimelech's household because of Sara, the wife of Abraham.

Abraham and Sara both lied, and God said nothing. But because of the lies and problems they caused, and even after God told Abimalech, he knew he had done this with a sincere heart, God closed the wombs of Abimelech's household! Why? What possible reasoning would make God punish a man He had admitted was
innocent? But while you"re puzzling over that question, let's not forget the flocks, and servants, and land Abraham had taken from a Pharaoh and a king. Was it planned? We"ll never know. Too bad Abimelech didn't know the Pharaoh! He could have saved himself a lot of trouble.

God helped Sara create a widow and an orphan when she saw Isaac and Agar's son playing together and ordered Abraham to cast out the slave girl. And once more Abraham bowed to Sara's desire. He got rid of the slave girl that SHE gave to him as a wife to have children with, only this time she was taking his son with her. But God told Abraham,
QUOTE
"Heed all that Sara says to you; for through Isaac shall your descendants be called." (Genesis 21:12)

In other words, Agar and her son are of little consequence, since Isaac is the
chosen one anyway.
QUOTE
Abraham rose early in the morning, took bread and a bottle of water, and gave them to Agar, placing them on her shoulder. Then he dismissed her and the child. She departed, and wandered about in the desert of Bersabee. (Genesis 21:14)

But wait! In the very next book of the Bible, God is passing out laws. And in the Social Laws section he says,
QUOTE
"You shall not wrong any widow or orphan. If ever you wrong them and they cry out to me, I will surely hear their cry. My wrath will flare up, and I will kill you with the sword; then your own wives will be widows, and your children orphans." (Exodus 22:21)

Once again, It's all right if God does it, but man no longer dares!

All Bible quotes are from the Douay-Catholic Bible

Abraham's brother's wife bore eight sons to Nahor. But, ....

QUOTE
As for his concubine, whose name was Roma, she brought forth Tabee, Gaham, Thahas and Maacha. (Genesis 22:24)

We already know God gave his blessing to sex with multiple wives and children by
Egyptian slaves. Now God approves of concubines.
QUOTE
Abraham married another wife whose name was Cetura. (Genesis 25:1)

Another opportunity to increase Israel's numbers. God approved of wives and concubines, but when it was time for Abraham to pass on his possessions to his heirs, the concubines were sent away with only presents for the children.
QUOTE
Abraham gave Isaac everything he had. Abraham gave presents to his children by his concubines, and while yet alive sent them away eastward, to the land of the East apart from Isaac. (Genesis 25:5)

Ever heard the old saying, "The acorn doesn't fall far from the tree?" Isaac made it obvious that his father taught him well! He feared to call Rebecca his wife, so he, like his father, lied. Like father, like son.
QUOTE
So Isaac dwelt in Gerara. When the men of the place inquired about his wife, he said, "She is my sister"; for he FEARED to call her his wife lest the men of the place should kill him on Rebecca's account, as she was beautiful. (Genesis 26:6)

In those days it was not unusual to marry two women at a time.
QUOTE
When Esau was forty years old he married Judith, daughter of Beeri the Hethite, and Basemath, daughter of Elon the Hethite. (Genesis 26:34)

Men must have been in short supply. .

Isaac instructed Jacob carefully not to marry a Chanaanite woman, then told him to go find a wife among close blood relatives.
QUOTE
Go then to Phaddan-Aram, the home of Bathuel, your mother's father, and there choose your wife from the daughters of your uncle Laban. (Genesis 28:2)

But two chapters later God said,
QUOTE
"None of you shall approach a close relative to have sexual intercourse with her. I am the Lord. (Leviticus 18:6)

Multiple wives, sex with slaves, concubines, and now incest. Is anything all right as long as it builds the population numbers?

For those readers who have not read "Mousetrails" I went back close to the front of the book and copied some passages that will give you a better idea where I came from as I researched and wrote the book.
Mousetrails

QUOTE
I will not argue with the New Testament. I cannot possibly disagree with anyone that did as much good as Jesus Christ. But how anyone could place the New Testament with its message of healing and brotherly love with the Old Testament and all it's hatred, greed and killing under the same cover and call it a, "HOLY BIBLE" is more than I can imagine. When you try to compare the God of the nation of Israel and Jesus Christ, there is no comparison; not one. The Jews were promised one more savior. They were sure they would get another leader like Josue, Gideon, Saul, or David. A strong man with fire in his eyes, a shield on his arm, and a sword in his hand; ready to do battle with the world and put Israel and their God in charge again. Jesus Christ was definitely not their man!

To tell me that a man who lived on this earth, healed the sick, did nothing but good, taught love and understanding, and never killed anyone is the son of the God that ordered the Israelites to commit genocide in Chanaan is more than I will ever believe, or accept. For me, there is a sadness connected to all of my years of hard work. All my research, and all my writing may be totally lost on a great number of the ignorant, brain washed religious people. There are many, many people in the world today that are petrified at just the thought of doubting what they have been taught to believe, much less considering what I have written.

When I discuss with them what I have learned, at first, they are interested. But when the discussion gets serious, their eyes go blank, and in that moment they remember only the ignorant preaching of their holy-roller leader. I am reading their own Bible to them, but the conversation is over! I joined in this exact same type of conversation with a very nice lady at the market one day. She was telling me what a great God she had. I asked her if she had ever added the numbers recorded in HER Bible to find how many people died in the Old Testament
because of her God. She informed me that she would rather not go off following mouse trails. I told her I didn't believe the death of 6,548,935 human beings could be described in such terms. She put on her best holier-than-thou face and said, "That doesn't matter. You"re just following insignificant little mouse trails!" Then she turned on her heel and was lost in the crowd. She was gone, but the
accusation stayed with me. My own daughter, Diana, worded my feelings at that moment much better than I ever could.

She wrote:
Religions/beliefs are mostly taken on faith and trust. Jesus, as a historical figure is a proven fact. As the son of God - an act of faith. So, If the person I"m conversing with is incapable of comprehending or accepting those facts, I go no further in the discussion. It is usually a sign that they are in a fanatic stage in which their ears are closed to knowledge. That's ok. I respect that. But I"m not going to waste my time attempting to discuss the Bible with somebody who doesn't realize that they are so busy reacting and thinking of "arguments" to prove 'their point," that they are incapable of hearing.
                                                                                Diana Hansen
I have had great praise for the way I made the Old Testament understandable and my work has been called "insignificant little mousetrails" and "trash." I've heard it all, so please don't jump on this thread tell me I'm angry and try to "save" me.
