Could it be that there is an outside reason for the bad review after he told me by e-mail that he read the book overnight? Maybe he doesn't like my treatment of his Quran?

Sir if you re-read the email you will see that I had already mentioned that I thought your conclusions were far-fetched and that your tone towards the Jews was harsh. This was before you made your comments on the Quran the email was dated Thursday, June 28, 2007 and your objectionable post on the Quran was made I think sometime in early July 2007. If I had already told you your book had a harsh tone and far-fetched conclusions how can I have sour-grapes? Or maybe you do not like criticism.

QUOTE
I also readily admit when something I read could be interpreted either of two ways.

As you are proving in the Reading the Quran thread you do not admit when you misread, misinterpret or add non-existent meanings to something.
QUOTE
I don't try to find the hidden meaning,

Maybe not but you do manage to find non-existent and impossible meanings.

I would love to elaborate on the criticisms I have made. I would however like to post exact quotes from your book and the bible to clearly illustrate my point. Both of which I have left in another city while I am at home with my family. You can email me the PDF of your book again if you wish and the Bible I can access online if you want me to start elaborating immediately. Otherwise you will have to be patient.

Have a nice visit Karbala. No I will not send you the PDF. I'm not in the habit of helping anyone twist things to make me look bad.

All quotes in italics are from the Douay version of the Catholic Bible.

We are reminded many times that we were made in the image of God. He said,"Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God man was made. (Genesis 9:6)
This makes it easy for Him to appear like the humans of the day and not be recognized until He tells them who He is or performs an act they don't understand. And while we"re on the subject of misunderstanding, more than one person has told me that when angels appeared to humans, the person seeing this angel called him Lord, out of respect, so they DIDN"T REALLY SEE GOD! I would like to clear this thinking before we go any further.

There is a place in the Bible where angels, and God, and the Lord, appear all in the same place, at the same time. In (Exodus 3:2) There an ANGEL of the LORD appeared to him in fire flaming out of a bush. Then in

QUOTE
(Exodus 3:4)  When the LORD saw him coming over to look at it more closely, GOD called out to him from the bush, "Moses! Moses!"  He answered, "Here I am."  GOD said, "Come no nearer! Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground. I am the GOD of your father," he continued,'the GOD of Abraham, the GOD of Isaac, the GOD of Jacob."  Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at GOD.  But the LORD said, "I have witnessed the affliction of my people in Egypt..."

First there was an ANGEL in the bush, then there was a LORD in the bush watching Moses come closer, then a GOD ...called out to him from the bush! Not only was it a God, the Bible tells you exactly which God! He claimed to be ... the GOD of your father, the GOD of Abraham, the GOD of Isaac, the GOD of Jacob." And why did Moses hide his face? Because, the Bible tells us, ... he was afraid to look at GOD. In seven verses of the Bible, Gods, and Lords, and angels are all in the same burning bush, all interchangeable, just three different titles for a man they thought was their God. Who DID Moses see in the burning bush? HIS GOD!

Here we have verses where God is seen as a man by someone that knew Him well.

QUOTE
Douay version of the Bible
And when he [Abraham] raised his eyes he saw three men standing at a distance from him.  As soon as he saw them, he ran from the entrance of the tent door to meet them, and bowed down to the earth, and said, "My Lord, if I find favor with you, do not pass by your servant."  Then the men set out from there and looked toward Sodom; and Abraham walked with them to escort them on their way. (Genesis 18:2)

Abraham saw them first as MEN, then recognized just one of the three to be the God that he had known on a face-to-face basis since (Genesis 12:1) He RAN to meet Him bowing to the earth and used the phrase, "My Lord," showing respect to his GOD that he had moments before mistaken for an ordinary MAN.

Sarai's maid, Agar, saw God when she was found in the desert by an angel she confused with God. She named the Lord she saw, the God of Vision. And then she asked how she could be alive after seeing God. The only time Lord is capitalized is when it refers to God, so she called the angel, Lord, then God.

QUOTE
Douay-Catholic Bible
"You are the God of Vision" for she said, "Have I really seen God and REMAINED ALIVE after my vision?" (Genesis 16:13)

She was obviously so shaken by her experience that she wondered how she could still be alive. Something I found interesting in these passages was that the Bible says Ismael (the beginning of the Muslims) will be,
QUOTE
Douay-Catholic Bible
"a wild a s s of a man, his hand against everyone, and everyone's hand against him,"

The Torah says,
QUOTE
Torah
"He will be a rebel. His hand will be against everyone, and everyone's hand will be against him."

Jacob wasn't having a vision. He wrestled with a real person all night. Then his adversary...asked Jacob,
QUOTE
Douay-Catholic Bible
"What is your name?" And he answered, "JACOB." He said, "You shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, because you have contended with God and men, and have triumphed." (Genesis 32:28)

This contest is probably the only account of a man wrestling with a god and winning. God created heaven and earth in five days. Then on the sixth day, He created a man He couldn't beat in a wrestling match. He had to resort to trickery, dislocating Jacob's thigh to get away. I can see the headlines, "MORTAL PINS GOD IN CLOSE MATCH."

Jacob wrestled in the dark with someone he couldn't see, but seventy-four Israelites had time to gaze on God. The Bible mentions nothing unusual except sapphire tilework. The elders recognized feet, not unusual feet, just human like theirs on clear tile. ...
QUOTE
Douay-Catholic Bible
and they beheld the God of Israel. Under his FEET there appeared to be sapphire tilework, as clear as the sky itself. Yet he did not smite these chosen Israelites. After gazing on God, they could still eat and drink. (Exodus 24:10)

Agar was amazed that she was still alive after seeing God, but the elders were only concerned that they could still eat and drink.

First, you are dealing with an English translation. So trying to pick out why different words are used in a translation of ancient texts is somewhat problematic, I.e., you may be criticizing the translator, as opposed to the original author. Further, even the so-called "original" texts are not that.

But we work with what we have.

So you conclude because the verse states that angel, Lord and God are all used as the same person in the bush, that it's confusing (or at odds). But in law, we use powers of attorney to accomplish just that. When one speaks on behalf of another, it is as though that person IS that other person. It matters not that physically they are two separate individuals. If the translation AND the account is accurate from, then one could easily surmise that God sent an angel to give the message, and that the angel spoke as tough he were God and the Lord (though in fact he was merely the representative).

That's hardly a "stretch," in my view.

I own several Bibles, but when the meaning of a word comes into question I go to my copy of the Torah. I double checked and found the Torah shows no conflict in these passages. I don't look for "hidden" meanings. To me it is a waste of my time, so if the Bible says there was an angel, a Lord, and God all in the same bush at the same time I don't question whether it could be. I just comment and move on.

I guess maybe God could have given the angel and the Lord power of attorney, but the Bible doesn't say he did, so I comment on what is said.

Moses was very familiar with God. He must have seen God often, because he was trusted throughout the house. Was there fancy communications by mental telepathy? No. God had a face and spoke to Moses plainly, in a language he could understand.

QUOTE
Douay-Catholic Bible
Should there be a prophet among you, in visions will I reveal myself to him, in dreams I will speak to him; NOT SO with my servant Moses!  Throughout my house he bears my trust: Face to face I speak to him, plainly and not in riddles. The presence of the Lord he beholds. (Numbers 12:6)

There is nothing I can add to make this passage any clearer. Moses and God were trusting friends.
