March Madness

Well, it is the month of March, and in NCAA Basketball, this is the biggest month of the year. March Madness starts on Selection Sunday, which is March 13th this year, and ends when the NCAA Basketball Champion is crowned after a gruelling 64-team tournament. Do you follow College Basketball and what teams are you rooting for? Are you into March Madness?

Madness March

My team, Missouri University, probably will not make the tournament. Realistically, we need a Big 12 tournament win to get in. Its too mad too since we just upset number seven KU. I will still be watching the big tourney this year, I will probably put a small bet on it at work since I usually predict the brackets very well. I'm gonna be watching the Illini this year. I don't want the to win, they are an intrastate rivalry with MU and MU loses every year almost! Aargh! This is still an exciting time though, this is almost as big as the superbowl to me!

Mizzou fan here as well, but it will definitely take a tourney win for them to get in to the dance! And if they did win the tourney, it would really screw up some of the projections that are being made for the Big Dance. Mizzou always has one major upset every year and this year it was Kansas (they do this to each other all the time). I look for a final of Kentucky and Kansas with a Kentucky win. They are both really well balanced teams.

My team is UCF, University of Central Florida, my alumni. They won their conference championship game Sunday, and earned an automatic bid to the 'big dance'. They'll probably get a #16 seed like they always do because they play in a small conference, but it is always exciting to see them playing against the big dogs. Go Golden Knights!

Madness March

The first round of action is over in the NCAA tournament and there have been some big upsets already. Unfortunately, my Golden Knights were not of those upsets, but they gave powerhouse and defending champs UConn all they could handle. Final score UConn 77 - UCF 71.
Kansas had to be the biggest upset of the first round, losing to Bucknell and giving the Patriot League their first ever Tourney win (1-13). Alabama (5) lost to UW-Milwaukee (12) and Syracuse (4) lost to Vermont (13). The Syracuse loss was a huge shocker for me, as I had them going to the Final Four of that bracket. Tournament action continues on today. I'll be watching.

Wow, what a great quartet of Regional Finals, culminating into the Final Four! It started on Saturday, when Louisville and West Virginia clashed horns. Louisville battled back from a 20-point deficit to force OT, then used their momentum to win the game. Next came Illinois vs Arizona; two basketball powerhouses. Illinois, the overall #1 seed found themselves down 15 with 3 minutes left to play, and somehow overcame this deficit to force OT. They then used their momentum, similar to the Wildcats before them, to win in OT.
Then came Sunday, and UNC vs Wisconsin came down to the last minute before it was decided. If you thought the action was over, Kentucky vs Michigan State was a fitting end to the NCAA golden weekend. Kentucky forced OT with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the end of regulation. A botched last shot in OT from Kentucky forced double OT where Michigan State was able to close out the game and book the final ticket to the Final Four. First time in NCAA history with 3 OT games in the Regional Finals. Here are the final matchups for next Saturday:

UNC vs Michigan State
Illinois vs Louisville

March Madness

I should have posted here before today but I forgot. That way, people would believe that I actually did correctly predict the four #1 seeds in the Tournament for 2006.

Duke
UConn
Villanova
Memphis

Now its just my word against anyone else's wink.gif

I will make one more prediction and say that of the 4 #1's, 3 of them will make the Final Four. The 4th (Memphis) will lose to Gonzaga who will be the 4th Final Four team. My pick to win it all is Villanova. Let the games begin!

Oh yes, how convenient! laugh.gif

Good pick Male, I thought Tenn should have earned a number one over memphis, but oh well. I am in the middle of filling out my brackets right now. I am usually very good on the initial brackets. What do you say Male? Pick and post your first rounds? Ill post mine if you post yours!
