So Egyptians in general consider themselves to be more cosmopolitan, more civilized than other Arabs. The fact they open their windows and look at pyramids built 4,000 years ago fuels that. In addition, Egyptian is a very male dominated. Males tend to be masculine and display what would be considered chauvinistic tendencies in the west. They are dismissive of women in power positions and also quite protective of women in their families. Egyptian males, and females too, are quite proud of their country's long and rich history and of the fact they are the most populous and most militarily powerful Arab country.

All of this may make on sense they are haughty, but this is not the case. Egyptian men are actually quite friendly once you get through that initial veneer. Once some rapport and trust is established they will invite you into their homes and introduce their female relatives, which is considered high honor. They will also share the best of what they have with you. Not to impress you but because that is how their society works.
