Minnesota Timberwolves

I live in Minnesota and have rooted for them since moving here almost 7 years ago. I enjoy watching Kevin Garnett's game, but it is evident he can't do it all on his own. The Joe Smith debacle a few years ago cost the T-Wolves a lot of draft picks, and not until last year where they able to draft someone decent. That someone is Rashad McCants, from the 2005 NCAA Champion North Carolina Tar Heels.
My belief is that McCants is someone the team can build around, including KG of course. However, with Kevin McHale running the show, I am not confident that the right personnel with makes its way to Minnesota. This, I fear, will lead to Garnett jumping ship, because, let's face it, he's paid his dues here in Minnesota, and he's not getting any younger. Will the Timberwolves be able to hold on to KG, or will they end up rebuilding once again?

I think that management would be foolish to let Garnett get away from them. But if they can bring McCants along quickly, they can become a force to be reckoned with. Garnett will only be around a couple more years if they don't show a big push to get a championship. He is to good and to valuable to waste, make the push now.

In an era of professional sports where slam dunks get more air time than anything else, this is a refreshing change from the norm.

All-Star Garnett named Kennedy Citizenship Award

WASHINGTON, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Minnesota Timber wolves forward Kevin Garnett was named the winner of the NBA's J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award on Thursday, an honor given to a player or coach for outstanding community service.

"I am happy that I can help make a difference in the communities, and blessed to be in the position where I am able to lend support. Hopefully, this will encourage others to do the same," the nine-time All-Star said in a prepared statement released by the NBA form New York.

Take a read of the full article for some examples of KG's contributions to our society. Interestingly enough, it took a bit of digging for me to find this article. I couldn't even locate anything about it on the official NBA site. Just a validation that professional sports is too much about flash and not enough about substance and individual accomplishments.
