The Lakers are finding out that life without Shaq is not what they thought it would be. Yes, Kobe Bryant has had probably the best year of his career statistically, but the team has suffered the more. I remember watching a game the other night where Kobe scored over 50 points and they still lost by double digits. Kobe is now facing the struggles that Minnesota are experiencing with Kevin Garnett. Phil Jackson returned to the Lakers this year, but it would seem he doesn't have the talent around him to mould a dominant team. Will Kobe stick around and rebuild, or will he try to join another team in an attempt to win another championship?

Kobe's 50 breaks Lakers' single-season scoring record
QUOTE |
Bryant broke Elgin Baylor's single-season scoring record with a flourish, getting 50 points Friday night in a 110-99 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night... He eclipsed two other franchise records this season that Baylor held -- most points in a game and most 40-point games in a season.. A victory on Sunday against Phoenix would keep Phil Jackson's perfect record as an NBA head coach intact -- guiding a team to the playoffs for the 15th time in 15 tries without ever finishing the regular season with a losing record. |
Kobe scores 43 as Lakers secure playoff berth
QUOTE |
Helped by the absence of Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant put on his usual one-man offensive show and the Los Angeles Lakers easily clinched a playoff berth. Bryant made a late-season case for league MVP honors, scoring 43 points in a 109-89 rout of the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. |

I watched the end of this game, and all I can say is that Kobe put in an MVP-type performance. If the Lakers do the unthinkable and take down Nash and the Suns in the first round, then I will be very impressed.
