I lived in Orlando before moving to Minnesota, and back then, they had a dominant team with the likes of Shaquille O'Neal, Penny Hardaway, Nick Anderson and Dennis Scott. They made the NBA Championship series in 1995 and lost miserably to the Houston Rockets. Since then, Shaq and Penny left town, 3-D Dennis Scott and Nick Anderson retired, and the team has been reduced to shambles of its former self.
The Magic organization tried to revive the team by bringing in Grant Hill, but he has been injury prone most of his career. Now they are embarking on building a young team with the likes of Dwight Howard, DeShawn Stevenson and Tony Battie. Penny Hardaway has since rejoined the team but in a leadership role. Coach Brian Hill has also rejoined the team and is doing well to keep the team not too far out of the playoff race. Steve Francis was also brought into town to help revitalize the offense, but his tenure was very short, and he has since moved on to New York. What are your thoughts on the rebuilding Orlando Magic?
In my opinion, I think that they have just hit a bit of a 'low' at the moment, but with the right management and players, they can and will rise back to their former 'glory days'. I have seen it be done before, and I have full confidence in their capabilities.
Together with Utah Jazz, they are my favorite NBA teams, we visited Orlando a few years ago, and we were supposed to go to see Orlando Magic play, but with not knowing the area, we couldn't find where they were playing, and spent a few hours driving round Orlando to no avail, and we in the end had to give it up as a 'bad job' We were absolutely gutted! We would have really loved to have seen them live, instead of on tv!
