When I hear about the Indiana Pacers, the first name that comes to mind is Reggie Miller. Of course, Miller is now retired from professional basketball, but he revitalized Pacer's basketball during his career. Reggie Miller holds both the scoring record and 3-point record for the Pacers organization, and soon enough will probably have his jersey retired there. I remember the Indiana-NY and Indiana-Chicago series in the 90's, and how Reggie Miller would always 'light up' these teams with his accurate shooting and field goal percentage.
These days, the team revolves around the likes of Jermaine O'Neal, Austin Croshere and Peja Stojackovic (Newly acquired from Sacramento). The Pacers are currently holding on to a 7 seed in the Eastern Conference but that is in jeopardy with the recent surge from the likes of Chicago and Philadelphia. Can the Pacers regain the success they experienced during the Reggie Miller era?
The Pacers came together as a team and put the slightly favored Nets a game down in their opening playoff series. The strategy appear to be to allow Vince Carter to get his, but pin everyone else down on the team. The result was a 90 to 88 point win in regular play that left the Nets wishing more people had contributed to the game. If the Nets are content to have Carter score the majority of the points, then I think the Pacers are going to have themselves a second seed birth.
The Pacers are really not that bad of a team, and frankly I wasn't surprised to see them beat the Nets today. Plus the fact that I think the Nets really aren't that good.
