Big Love

A new television series on HBO, Big Love is the story of a businessman in Utah who is a little bit different than his neighbors. He has three wives, living in three houses on the same street.

This is a story about polygamy (Actually polygyny). According to the reviews, it is very complex, in many ways. Of course, it is extremely controversial.

Love Big

I have just recently gotten HBO and have started watching the show. I find it enjoyable to watch and rather humorous at times. I have been curios as to what other polygamist think of it, and even other LDS members because of the way they portray the father-in-law, who is a prophet as well, as mean spirited, hypocritical, and a bigot. But the complexity of life is compounded when you have three familys lives that you are wrapped up in, I don't see how the man has time to breath!

For a network that has been struggling for a new hit the last few years, it appears HBO has finally hit one out of the park. Big love gives you all the drama you would expect from having three wives and more children than you can count. It is a very interesting look into a lifestyle that has been silent up until now. Bill Paxton stars in the show as Bill Hendrickson, who is balancing three households, two large home goods stores, and a money hungary father-in-law who will stop at nothing to get a piece of his pie. Everything about this show works, and I look forward to many seasons to come.

This series has been showing on the Hallmark channel here in the UK.
I don't even like the sound of the story line, and in my opinion, Polygamy is totally wrong.
I hear the Polygamist saying of ' I'd rather have 30% of a 100% man, than have 100% of a 30% man'. If you choose carefully, really you can have both, there are plenty of really decent men out there that want to love just 1 woman for the rest of their lives.

Another point that seems wrong to me, is it is always the man who has the extra partners, never the other way round!

It just seems so wrong to me for a tv channel to be making huge amounts of money out of a programme, advertising sins! (In my humble opinion)

I used my handy TiVo to tape a couple episodes because of the LDS aspect. I wanted to see how they were handling it and if it was being portrayed in the worst-possible light as I figured it would be. Stereotypically and all. I couldn't get into the show because frankly I wasn't interested in the storyline or what I really thought was a lack thereof. Between that and the amount of sex and lying in the marriages, I didn't stick around to watch it. It apparently is not for me.

I know my wife loves watching this show. I even bought the first season of Big Love for her to watch all she wants. I am sure I will continue buying the seasons as they come out.
