Pro-Abortion Susan Rice Faces Secretary of State Opposition

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice is facing opposition from Senate Republicans in her possible bid to replace pro-abortion Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Sen. John McCain, an Arizona Republican, said today Rice is "not qualified" to replace Clinton as the nation's number one foreign diplomat and suggested he would filibuster her nomination, if she is nominated for the post. Ref. Source 1

97 Republicans Tell Obama: Don't Nominate Susan Rice for State

Some 97 Republican members of the House of Representatives signed a letter Monday urging President Barack Obama not to nominate Susan Rice as Secretary of State. Rice, who has promoted abortion internationally as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, would follow pro-abortion Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who has announced she will step down for a replacement.

Rep. Jeff Duncan, a South Carolina Republican, organized the letter and obtained the signatures for it and, according to The Hill, the letter centers on foreign policy as the reason. Ref. Source 9

Susan Rice, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, will replace Tom Donilon as President Barack Obama's national security adviser, a senior administration official says.

Rice had been considered a leading contender for secretary of state, but Republican-led opposition against her potential nomination spurred the ambassador to withdraw her name from consideration in December.

Critics faulted Rice for saying that the attack on the U.S. Compound in Benghazi, Libya, originated from a spontaneous protest over an anti-Islam video. The Obama administration later said the violence was a planned terrorist attack. The raid left four Americans killed, including the U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens. Ref. CNN
