What are your comments about the below video? Take into account how the missionaries handled it, could they have done something differently?

Agitator Vs Missionaries

I think they tried their best to keep calm. Many people may see them as they did not do well but I think they did great based on the circumstances. If the person that shouts the most, if the person that argues the most, if the person who does not allow the other person to answer the question is the one that is perceived as the one that handle it "better" so it be. The missionaries tried their best to be polite and even tried to shake hands with the guy and he refused, who was really angry then?

The preacher was just looking to argue with the "white" boys and he is full of pride (hence his comments in the last part). Satan has a good hold on him.

The black guy claims to be well versed in doctrine yet at the same time his brash and contentious arguments are just nothing more than trash talk.

./sigh

It is a shame that a man of obviously some years and life experience thinks that his ability to successfully 'confound' or 'debate' what is truth to those that are younger and without such confrontational experience proves his authority, intellectual prowess or his correctness. Simply put, the truth IS. One can argue different and sometimes with success, but it still doesn't change the truth.

The older man's understanding of the doctrine is weak and he obviously missed Christ's message about humility. Reminded me of a Pharisee, revelling in confrontation rather than righteousness and fellowship. It is his choice, I'd like to think that the missionaries learned the difference between a 'teaching moment' and when its time to drop a card and leave quickly.

The man wouldn't know Christ, if our Lord braided a whip in front of him and beat him with it.

The fat dude was just on a mission of his own to make the Elders look stupid. The only thing I don't get is why the missionaries didnt just ask for an appointment when they saw them video taping?

Missionaries Vs. Agitator

I'm sure this happens all the time. Missionaries are trained to teach the Gospel (faith, repentance, baptism, gift of the holy ghost, endure till the end) In my humble opinion, they look for willing pupils. People like this street preacher they ran into have obviously not been prepared by the spirit to be taught. He didn't want to hear anything the missionaries wanted to say, he cut them off every time they tried to address his concerns. They were trying to be polite,so it remains to be seen if they could played scripture ping pong with him. He never gave them a chance.

I laugh when someone quotes 2 John 1 personally.

QUOTE
2 John 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

That scripture quickly falls out of the context its being used in. When John wrote this scripture there wasn't a physical bible on earth. The NT is the compiled teachings of those who bear witness to Christ.. some specifically written documentation of events (4 Gospels) and some letters (epistles) that were written to address certain Christian churches that the apostles could not physically travel to as frequently as they'd like. I doubt these people had any clue that eventually people would be hanging on their words in such a legalistic fashion. Even if you look at it completely legalistic and hang on every red letter word, this scripture would apply more to a Muslim than someone who reads the bible.

The fact that this guy wouldn't shake their hand suggests to me that he has never ventured into the dictionary to look up "Godspeed" which is simply the act of wishing someone a prosperous journey. Shaking someones hand and saying "It was nice to meet you." is not bidding Godspeed.

Just because the people on this message board like to get into deep doctrine, this this is more of a minority than majority.. Although I cant find the topic yet, I see the 2nd Anointing / "Calling and Election Made sure" is discussed on this board.... Try bringing that up in your elders quorum or relief society...I bet it would be hard to find people who even know what your talking about.

What I am getting at really is that there are few people who would have been able to have an educated conversation with that guy... That person would have had to have been well educated in evangelical interpretations of the scriptures vs lds understanding of the same scriptures and looked a certain way. You heard him call the missionaries "white boys"... He didn't like the appearance of God's messengers, so right off the bad he was discounting their message.

I am not even sure if such person would even be able to hold a conversation with this guy. It is obvious by the video that he has everything figure out and anyone trying to change that prideful mindset will be dismissed by him if not scripturally, by insults of some sort.

I tend to agree with this statement because of the obvious lack of respect for them he showed and then at the end. It was about him not HIM--Our Savior. The gospel is simple--not easy but the way he talked circles around them to make them doubt themselves and then TOLD them they didn't believe in Christ, that would bring some anger to me as well I think. I thought they handled it well, they tried to go when the spirit left (if it was even there before) when the contention began. I did love the fact they tried to bear witness and hopefully they were able to spiritually lift one another after that trial of faith. It really is sad!
