QUOTE

he Accohannock Indian Tribe is one of the oldest historical tribes in Maryland. The Tribal Office is located in Marion, MD, a small town just north of Crisfield. The Accohannocks originally inhabited the territory they called Accomack which, after colonization, became the Eastern Shore of Old Virginia and is presently the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia. The territory included the Chesapeake Bay home villages on the Annemessex River at present day Crisfield, MD, on the Accohannock Creek in Virginia and on the islands in the Chesapeake Bay.

The Accohannock Indian Tribe is an Algonquian-speaking sub-tribe of the Powhatan nation. The bands of the Accohannock were part of the Accomac Confederation. They were the first watermen, hunters, farmers, and trappers on the Chesapeake Bay waters and wetlands. They harvested food from the Chesapeake Bay and its many tributaries. They grew squash, maize (corn), and other Native American foods. The Accohannocks also were great hunters of waterfowl, deer, rabbit, squirrels, raccoons, bear and elk.

The Accohannock tribe has its roots in the Algonquin tribe, if not history, then definitely in language. There history with the European settlements is well documented as they are one of the oldest tribes in the New England area. Unlike other tribes, the majority of them were not moved to a reserve but melded, dispersed, and assimilated into European culture, much like the conquest of other lands of old.

Accohannock History & Civil Business Politics

Name: Dawn

Subject: Accohannock Indian tribe

Message: If they want to really set the record straight, the Accohannock Indians were from Virginia not Maryland, this is according to several credible resources, Weslager,(Weslager, C.A. The Accomack and Accohannock Indians from Early Relations). , Dr. Helen Rountree, Wikipedia.com, and many others. I have researched these proported Accohannocks from Maryland and found some disturbing factual information. The research in fact says that the Maryland Accohannocks are in fact frauds and are making up a false history that is now becomming a danger. Dangerous in the sense that these made up histories tend to lead astray the real history of the noble people who died many years ago and were the true Accohannock indians. The children are learning a lie instead of true history. These type of cultural thieves cheapen the true history of the REAL tribes of Maryland. And now to add credibility to the lies that they told, they almost own the Commission on Indians for the State of Maryland. That is just plain wrong.

I am formally asking that a investigation into the validity of these proported Accohannock Indians and the fradulent Nause-Waiwash Band of Indians be launched. I have much proof that they are invalid. Including the geneology of their so called chief.

If you wish, I will forward much of it to you. You can first look at the wikipedia article on the Accohannocks that was written by their native american resource administrator. For your convience here is a link to the article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accohannock
https://www.esva.net/ghotes/Matthew/ES%20Indians.MK2002.htm

I can also provide you with a real history of the Accohannock Indians if you wish.

I cannot fathom promoting a lie and misinformation yet again about our peoples. Even "word of mouth" has to have some historical basis.

With great respect,

Wanishi! (Thank You!)

Comments: Osiyo,

First and formost, Maryland, Virginia as well as the State of Delaware are not located in any area of the New England area States. So the Accohannock Tribe could not be the oldest Native tribe in New England.

Second, the Accohannock Tribal Inc. is nothing but a scam filled with lies and falsehoods. Any real Native could speak of this, mainly if they are Natives with Historical Tribal heritage of the State of Maryland.

In these modern times it is so easy for anyone to start a 501c3 non-profit group with a Tribal name, though that doesn't make them Native. Another fact, is that a true Native will not give up their Ancestral Tribal Heritage for another tribal Heritage. That is Tradion....

I am fully aware of the lies, and other stuff pretaining to the Accohannock since the beginning of 2003 when I met Rudy (Known as Chief Laughing Otter) Hall, and was explaiming to him who I was, and half way through he stopped me and asked a question "So what is your con, you trying to be Chief."

I was raise Native in an Urbran City (Baltimore Indian center area). I have known that I was native since I was born.

Well over fifteen years ago there was no Accohannock, yet there was Native Pride. Now there is no Native Pride in this State except Accohannock B.S.ing.

Go out West and the natives will Laugh at the circus show that goes on in the State of Maryland. Awansgi, donadagohvi.

Comments: Siyo,

It seems that everyone prefers quotes from some great book.... Well that is too much magic for one to pull out of their hand.

One must be Native, live Native, to experience life in that manner, to learn of the [..].
