The Boston Red Sox were one of 2 teams with the 'curse' of not having won a World Series title in close to 100 years. That quickly turned around in 2004 when they won the Championship. What was most impressive about their title that year was not the sweep of the St Louis Cardinals, but the comeback against arch-rival New York Yankees after being down 0-3 in the ALCS. No team had ever come back from 0-3 deficit on the ALCS, and they accomplished this, and then went on to capture the crown.
This year they are right back on track after a disappointing 2005 season, and currently lead the AL East with a 11-4 record. Their biggest off-season move was the loss of perennial outfielder Johnny Damon, who went over to the dark side with the New York Yankees. However, the addition of pitcher Josh Beckett has revitalized the starting pitching rotation, and he has gotten off to a great start (3-0). That coupled with Curt Schilling's 4-0 start and 6 HR's from DH David Ortiz is keeping the Red Sox nation happy and confident.

I'm just glad they won so they can stop complaining about the Curse of the Bambino. They have consistently had great teams over the years and just not been able to pull out the big wins. I think it was more of a collective team and city mental block, not being able to win. They will be more likely to win now that they have crossed that hurdle.
Red Sox bring Mirabelli back to catch Wakefield's knucklers
QUOTE |
SAN DIEGO -- Doug Mirabelli, who during his tenure in Boston was Tim Wakefield's personal catcher, was traded back to the Red Sox on Monday for the replacement who hasn't been able to handle the knuckleballer this year. The Red Sox announced they would give up backup catcher Josh Bard, minor league reliever Cla Meredith and either cash or another player. Mirabelli was expected back in Boston in time for Wakefield's start against the New York Yankees on Monday night. |
The Red Soxs are really looking impressive this year. Josh Becket has been solid for them this year, as I expected he would. Today's game is set on the DVR as Becket faces off against Randy Johnson and the Yankees! When these teams meet, its rarely a pitchers dual, but thats exactly what I expect today!

Is that game going to be televised, and if so, on what channel? I am home sick today so even if it is during the day I would definitely want to watch this matchup. Beckett has been a very good addition to the Sox pitching rotation. The Sox and Yankees will be battling each other for the AL East late into the season.
