The St. Louis Cardinals, in my opinion, is one of the most dangerous teams in Major League Baseball. They possibly have one of, if not the best player in all of baseball in Albert Pujols. His supporting cast include such names as Scott Rolen, David Eckstein, Jim Edmonds and Yadier Molina. The pitching staff is pretty good also with a lineup of Chris Carpenter, Mark Mulder, Jeff Suppan, Jason Marquis and Sidney Ponson (newly acquired from Baltimore).
The Cardinals have won the NL Central division the last 2 years with a trip to the World Series in 2004. This year, that feat may not be as easy with perennial contenders Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros, and a much improved Milwaukee and Cincinnati teams.
I really have a distaste in my mouth for the Cardinals and their fans. Every time a Royals fan and a Cardinals fan get into a discussion, its ends up about the 1985 World Series in which the Cardinals feel they got cheated. They didn't and they need to keep it shut! They have had the benefit of a good team for a long time. When they didn't have a great team, they had a great player, so why all the whining? Is there a Cardinals fan who can tell me that!?
You want to take about hatred for Cardinals and their fans? Talk to my wife who is an avid and die-hard Cubs fan. Cardinals-Cubs is probably one of the biggest rivalries in baseball, if not sports altogether. I haven't been to a Cardinals-Cubs game yet, but I suspect the atmosphere is non too friendly, regardless of it is being played in Chicago or St. Louis.
The Cardinals have not always had a good team or at least a good player since 1985. After Whitey Herzog left the coaching was horrible and all of our stars started getting traded or retired. In fact, at one point, Ray Lankford was considered our star player. A .270 batter with about 20 to 30 homeruns a year also struck out more than 95% of the rest of the league. As a long time frustrated fan I will say they are back and they are great. I feel our relief pitching could improve a lot, and I'm sure the starters we have can improve as well.
A game 7 win and over the hated Mets! SWEEEEEET. In the 80's, before re-alignment, probably only the Cubs were more hated in St. Louis as the Mets. The best part of this upcoming series is that none of the 10 top spending teams made it to the Final. Just goes to show it is still a team and not a individual millionare sport.
GO CARDS!

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The St. Louis Cardinals are mourning a teammate for the second time in five years, and it isn't any easier this time.

It looks like yet another professional sports personality ends his career because of some stupid vices. Didn't he learn nothing from all those ads: "Say NO to Drugs!".
