Toshiba introduced its $499 HD-A1 player last week. Samsung plans to roll out the first Blu-ray machine, list price $1,100, in June. |
I have to agree with the sentiment expressed in that article that I am staying put until a winner emerges from the DVD war. While Blu Ray is appealing, it looks like there are 2 formats for it currently. Reminds me of the laser disc technology that was supposed to antiquate current media but died a horrible death. I am not about to spend $1100 on something when I don't even have the assurance that it's output will be supported a couple of months down the road.

The battle between Sony and Microsoft in the game console market won't hinge on price, analysts say. Instead, it will likely come back to Blu-ray. More important, the Sony console comes with a high-definition Blu-ray DVD drive for playing movies. Stand-alone Blu-ray players are likely to cost close to $1,000 when they arrive later this year. |

So once again the best marketing strategies win the race. Funny how it is not the best technology that wins. Same as the mac vs IBM way back and the beta vs VHS, I still think the X-box is way better then the Playstation 3 and hope it will stick around regardless of this battle.
