Texas has started the season at 10-9 and lead the AL West division, which boasts such teams as Oakland, Seattle and LA aka Anaheim. Texas has never won a World Series title and last won the division in 1999. The biggest problem that I have noticed with the Rangers of the last 5 years is their pitching staff. Oral Hershiser was brought in last year to try and rejuvenate it, but he was unable to do so, and the distraction of the Kenny Rogers incident probably didn't help either. Batting wise, the Rangers have had to deal with two major losses in Alex Rodriguez and Alfonso Soriano. However the improbable hitting of Mark Teixeira, Michael Young and Hank Blalock will give the Rangers a fighting chance in 2006.
I find it interesting that they continue to bring in big name players but still cannot win a pennant. I see them bring in Alex Rodriguez and Roger Clemens, and still cannot put together a winning team. I think its a mind set that has gone on for years in the club. They are going about it the same way as the Yankees, but without the payroll of them.
Can Kevin Mench tie the record for most consecutive home run games?
Mench homers in seventh straight game, Rangers fall
QUOTE |
Mench homered in his seventh straight game for Texas, but made the final out against Wickman as the Cleveland Indians held on to beat the Rangers 7-6 Friday night for their third straight victory. He became the first right-handed batter ever to reach the plateau, joining Jim Thome, Don Mattingly, Dale Long and Ken Griffey Jr. "When you say 'ever' in our game, that better get your attention," Texas manager Buck Showalter said. Long, Mattingly and Griffey share the major league record with homers in eight straight games. |
The Texas Rangers have reached the World Series for the second straight year, defeating the Detroit Tigers 15-5 in Game 6 of ALCS. They will face the winner of the St. Louis Cardinals-Milwaukee Brewers NLCS.
The Rangers sent 14 batters to the plate in the third inning, scoring nine runs on six hits, three walks and an error.
All Texas runs in the third inning were earned. Tigers starter Max Scherzer gave up six runs in the third. Two Detroit relievers also worked the third inning.
The Tigers jumped to a 2-0 lead after solo home runs by Miguel Cabrera in the first and Jhonny Peralta in the second. Ref. CNN
Because of their identical 91-71 records, Texas and Tampa Bay will play regular-season game No. 163 on Monday night at 8:07 p.m. ET in Texas to determine who advances to the wild-card game, which will be hosted by the Indians. The winner of that American League wild-card game will play the Red Sox, while the A's and Tigers do battle. In the National League, the Reds will travel to Pittsburgh for the wild-card game, with the winner playing the Cardinals. The Dodgers will play the Braves. Ref. USAToday
