I am still bitter about the treatment ex-manager Larry Bowa received from the Phillies organization, and I am not even a Phillies fan. They basically drove him out of town, thinking he was the problem with the Phillies. Well, they haven't done much better since his departure 3 years ago. In fact, they've done worse. Bobby Abreu is all that is left on a team of inconsistent performers like Pat Burrell and Jimmy Rollins. The Phillies have only won 1 World Series title in their history and that was back in 1980. As a Braves fan myself, I am not sympathetic at all to the woes of the Phillies.
I think that its not the player management, its the general management that has been the problem. I don't understand it either, they have had some really good teams, even as early as the early to mid 90's when they had John Kruk. But they haven't been able to finish it off.
Did anyone see when Rowand broke his nose slamming into the outfield wall trying to catch a fly-ball? He obviously had no idea how close he was to it. The break was so bad he will need surgery to fix it. The Phillies ended up winning 2-0 in a rain-shortened game.
