The Preamble of the US Constitution represents a united front by the newly established country to protect what they held dear. Outlined is the purpose that the constitution was written and who is represented in its writing.
Note that the reasons listed all move towards our own countries liberty, happiness, and posterity. It represents the spirit in which the Constitution was formed and ratified. It represents the peoples symbolic approval of what was to come in the constitution and gives our trust to future representatives of the people to keep all laws in the spirit to which it was written.

I dearly wish that "insure domestic tranquility" applied more liberally. It seems we are constantly at battle with someone, somewhere. We have more battles on our own homefront that may not be "as glamorous" or something as going to war, but we are still nowhere near "tranquil" on issues such as the malnutrition of children, the senseless killings that occur hourly, and the amount of violence that occurs in American households on a daily basis. America's founding fathers had the right idea, I just think it's been corrupted since then.
