MORTAL KOMBAT
A novel by Jeff Rovin
I have owned this book for years but have just recently decided that it was time to read it. I am only a few chapters into it but am finding that the details of events and even the descriptions of the surrounds are very clear and really give you a great state of visualizing everything as you read. I find few books that really can do that for me but I have been impressed.

"The unknown origins of your favorite heroes and villains: The brave Liu Kang, lethal Sonya Blade and the vile Shang Tsung. Who are they? Where they came from? What secrets they hide? How they fought for a mysterious amulet that held the key to their future." |
QUOTE (Author's Note) |
"Apart from the characters that appear in the videogame Mortal Kombat, most of the gods, dragons, heroes, alchemists, curs, and folk characters described or mentioned in this novel come from the rich mythology and history of China. Interested readers can learn more by consulting such texts as Great Civilizations: China by Ian Morrison and the wonderful Alchemy, Medicine and Religion in China of A.D. 320, in particular the James R. Ware translation." |
Mortal Kombat was one of my favorite games in college, and I've seen all the movies. I am not a huge fan of books (yes, I am lazy) but I would spend time reading a book about the Mortal Kombat characters and their history. Thanks for the heads-up Bwren.
My favorite character to play with was Rayden, because I knew all his moves and they were easy to perform. As for history, obviously Liu-Kang would be the most interesting to read about in this book. If you are familiar with Kung-Lao, he is also an ancestor of Liu-Kang, so there is a lot of history behind the origin of Liu-Kang.
