Nephi RPG Thoughts
A mini-journal of things learned...
Within this thread ONLY the player in the Nephi RPG may post about his character and what they have personally learnt as they have ventured to the Promised Land. this thread is not for discussion or to give hints about the game.
Interestingly enough I get to both write about my viewpoint of what the game should present and at the same time what I have leant.
Birth
When I first began writing this script I was thinking about a talk tape I heard many years ago. It was an audio book really and I believe the name was, 'Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites'. The idea for the game did not come from there, but I did see how this seemed similar to it save that it was interactive. The Birth sequence really makes you think about the importance and meaning of names. It also gives you a little hint of what life might have been like back then. I am thinking to improve upon the storyline as time goes by, but now, it is more important to get the chapters out and available.
First Chapter
The interesting thing about the First Chapter is that it acts as a separation of those that really are familiar with the Book of Mormon and those that just want to play an RPG. In creating it I had to resolve many things behind the scenes, especially with advancement and modification - terms that become more apparent as one succeeds.
Fourth Chapter
In creating this one I thought a lot about what we focus on in life. Sometimes it seems very hard to focus on what really matters as this chapter illustrates all too well.
Fifth Chapter
Upon the reaching if this chapter I believe the player would be somewhat tired and so this is a welcome break from the vigor of the first four chapters. However, it is not a time for complacency as knowledge is still required.
Sixth & Seventh Chapters
Here we bring to an end to what may have seemed like a formidable task to accomplish, but at the same time the Journey to the Promised Land was no walk over and thus it may be perceived as difficult. By the end of the Seventh Chapter a great sense of fulfillment is evident, but not sufficient to overcome as a new and very different challenge awaits you. This also goes in hand with how different the opposition was for those who now had to live in the Promised Land.
After Chapter Seven
The section that proceeds the seven chapters is taking quite a bit of coding - more than I had initially planned for in the beginning, but as time went on I found myself adding more and more features. The reason for this is based on random events that affect your performance. In the seven chapters everything is based on your choice / skill, but sometimes life is not so simple - you can be doing everything correct and then something bad turns up and so this part of Nephi RPG checks how well you can deal with it.
