SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The United Way of Salt Lake recently honored businesses and individuals that helped support the organization during the past year. Bishop H. David Burton of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints received the day's most prestigious award, the United Way's compassionate leader of the year. In presenting the award, last year's winner, developer Kem Gardner, called Bishop Burton "a champion whose service to this community is unequaled and whose tireless efforts to help people of this community and their families is unsurpassed."
It seems like H. David Burton had everything set just right for him to move forward. He comes from a long line of leadership in his family with his great-great-grandfather, Robert Taylor Burton, being once a member of the Presiding Bishopric also. He was born on the 25th April 1938 in Salt Lake City, and met his future wife, Barbara Matheson while in Junior High. H served in the Southern Australia Mission, and with no 'Dear John' letter for the two years he returned to Utah and married Barbara.
