Out of Character:: Fast Forward.
The game may slow right now due to the intricate details of what is to come.
IN CHARACTER:
You are all in the town of Sandpoint on Oathday first day of Rova (Fall), if you didn't grow up here you have arrived just previous to today. You find yourself surrounded by the festive atmosphere of the townsfolk lively chattering, children running around, the town is positively bustling with cheery people. For those of you whom live within the town or where asked to be here to take part in the festivities, you are privy to the knowledge that the cause of such jovial interaction and overflow of people is due to the Swallowtail Festival (A ritual to consecrate the new temple). The old temple had burned down five years ago in an untimely tragedy that had also taken the lives of the much loved religious leader Ezakien Tobyn and his not so fondly thought of daughter Nualia. The town has been much aggrieved of their admired religious leader throughout the years, although the new leader Father Abstalar Zantus, (Better known as Father Zantus) a very kind and wise leader has been upstanding in his duties. The town is ready to begin anew and end their long grieving with the Swallowtail Festival to consecrate their new temple. The Temple houses six shrines dedicated to Desna, Sarenrae, Erastil, Abadar, Shelyn, and Gozreh.
The square before the temple is crowded with the towns folk and travelers alike for the festival. You see several Merchant tents and stalls with a variety of foods, clothing, crafts, and souvenirs. The festivities begin with the opening speeches as the Mayor Kendra Deverin takes to the podium. "Welcome friends, family and, travelers. I see many faces I recognize, I even see that Larz Rovanky has been able to tear himself away from his work to be with us." At this comment the crowd livens with laughter as Larz the local tanner is notorious for being a workaholic. " I hope all gathered here today enjoy the festivities and find peace in your hearts with the consecration of our new beloved temple"
She goes on in some minor detail to point out the different activities of the day and welcomes the sheriff to the podium. "... And now for Sheriff Hemlock...."
Sheriff Hemlock nods to Mayor Deverin as he approaches and stoically in a mood unfitting of the atmosphere begins with, "Please be sure to be careful around this evenings bond fire, watch your children we don't need any accidents. Now let us have a moment of silence in remembrance of Father Ezakien Tobyn and the destruction of our previous temple..." The sheriff bows his head in reverence and waits silently for everyone to join in the moment of silence. After a very long pause the sheriff nods to Cyrdak Drokkus (The owner of the Sandpoint theater) indicating his turn to take the stage, without so much as a thank you or a brief introduction the sheriff leaves.
Cyrdak makes up for the lack of enthusiasm the sheriff imparted. "Welcome everyone! I hope all who have gathered for the Swallowtail Festival find it as entertaining as I do. It has been a long and arduous process in rebuilding the temple and I would like to thank everyone for their contributions in aiding us in our rebuilding. I would also like to welcome everyone to stop by the Sandpoint theater tomorrow evening for our rendition of 'The Harpy's Curse'. The lead role will be played by none other than the famous Magnimarian diva Allishanda!" Cyrdak claps his hands together enthusiastically inciting the roaring cheers and applause of the surrounding crowd. He gives a triumphant bow that only a thespian of his long standing could and gives way to Father Zantus with an inviting outstretch of his arm as if in introduction.
Father Zantus takes to the podium with an air of humility in the thundering cheers of the crowd at his arrival, waiting for the crowds cheers to die down he clears his throat, "Thank you all for coming to join us for the festivities of the consecration of our new temple, may Desna bless you all and watch over your dreams and guide you by the light of her stars. I would like to now announce that the Swallowtail festival is now underway. Please enjoy yourselves and join us once again at noon here in the square for the story of Desna and a free lunch provided by our towns Inn's and taverns." Nodding in a humble retreat from the stage the crowd once again thunders to life and people begin to move about browsing the wares available to them.
NOON
At noon the crowd appears to have gathered in a renewed force, perhaps the many travelers had arrived late or the town found the atmosphere gaining in excitement decided to join the festivities. Father Zantus and his acolytes wheel a large covered wagon into the center of the square and Father Zantus takes to the podium once again to the renewed cheers of the gathering crowd. "I would like to tell you all of a short parable of Desna. Desna was the first goddess fell to the earth and was nursed back to health by a blind child. In her gratitude she transformed the child into an immortal Swallowtail butterfly as a reward for her kindness and aid." At this they pull the cover from the wagon and thousands of remarkably colored Swallowtail butterflies take flight, creating a wondrous display they spiral and flutter through the air. The crowd goes wild with cheers deafening all those present.
Lunch is provided for free, as a marketing ploy to gain new customers for the taverns. Each of the taverns compete with their best dishes, trying to win the hearts of the travelers and the patronage of the townsfolk. Ameiko Kaijitsu brings her curry-spiced salmon and early winterdrop mead and easily gains the admiration of the crowds over her competitors such as Hagfish's lobster chowder or the White Deer's peppercorn venison.
Finally as night begins to creep on the days fun and festivities Father Zantus takes to the podium once again for the reciting of the Prayer of First Dreaming. He uses a thunderstone to gain the crowds attention. At the sound of the loud crack issued from the thunderstone he clears his throat and is about to speak when a woman's scream is heard through the attentive silence of the crowd. Then a chain of screams begin to echo through the crowd.
