Who is your favorite Nascar Nextel Cup Series driver?


I am a full supporter of Ryan Newman in the #12 Alltel Dodge. His nickname is the Rocket because of his previous history of setting the pole (fastest lap) in qualifying. Newman's luck has not been with his yet this season as it has been every race this year he has had a horrible finish. Most of these were due to another car knocking him out of the running or into the wall.

I do not follow the Nextel Cup series very closely, but my wife is a huge 'Little E' fan, or Dale Earnhardt Jr. I used to root for Jeff Gordon before I met my wife, and she converted me over to the Earnhardt's.

I am a huge Jeff Gordon fan and have been since 1994. No one can convert me to another driver, not even bwren. He's a 4-time Cup champion with 73 wins. His ranked 7th among drivers on the all-time win list, 1st among current active drivers. I never miss a race. Today's race was postponed to Monday due to rain. I may have to come down with an illness to stay home for the race. **laughing

Like I said earlier, I don't follow Nascar as closely as I probably should. However, I have heard from many fans of the sport that you either love Jeff Gordon or you hate him. There is no in-between emotion when it comes to him. Is it because he is so good? Do you agree with that statement?

I completely agree with you malexander. People either love him or hate him. There is not in between. My brother-in-law is a Dale Jr. fan and hates Jeff Gordon. My sister is a Kasey Kahne fan and hates Jeff Gordon. If Gordon crashes, they like to call my house and gloat. When I lived with my sister's family a couple of years ago, I converted my niece who was 7 at the time to being a Jeff Gordon fan. She still loves Jeff Gordon and knows more stats and history about him than I do. I thought they were going to kick me out of the house for corrupting their daughter.

My brother-in-law and I started a mini war with each other (all in good fun). There was something on tv one time about Jeff Gordon having a big head, a bobble head. My brother-in-law loved that. So I decided to get even and find him a Dale Jr. bobblehead for Christmas. I searched Ebay and found one for him. I decided to give him his special gift in front of all the family. He said he had a special gift for me too. We unwrapped our presents at the same time. He had given me a Jeff Gordon bobblehead. The entire family got a pick kick out of, especially my sister and bwren since they knew what we were both plotting. The next year I knew I had to get even. So I bought two antenna toppers for his truck. The one he unwrapped was a Dale Jr. topper. The one he found already planted on his truck was a Jeff Gordon topper. Without my knowledge and with bwren's help they placed the Gordon topper in my gas tank. I didn't find it til nearly a week later when I refueled for gas.

I'm now plotting my next attack move.

Why does bwren continue to support Ryan Newman when no one else does? **laughing

Last night was the All-Star Challenge. Only select drivers race for $1 million dollars. Before the race they introduce the driver along with his entire pit crew. Ryan Newman came on the stage as usual, then he was followed by his pit crew dressed as pimps. Sorry, there was no other word to describe their attire. One of the crew members got the bright idea to stage dive into the crowd. That's great for rock shows, but not good with a Nascar crowd. Because if the crowd doesn't like you, they are not likely to catch you. And sure enough the crew member fell flat on his face on ground. The crowd parted like the Red Sea when he jumped in. The crew member got up quickly and didn't appear hurt. It was the funniest thing I had seen and makes you wonder, "What was he thinking?"

My brother-in-law was nice enough to leave a message on my answering machine shortly after driver introductions. He pointed out that my driver Jeff Gordon got quite a bit of boos when introduced while his favorite, Dale Jr. received the highest amount of cheers followed by Kasey Kahne, my sister's favorite. But I'm happy to say Jeff finished third, Dale Jr. finished 9th and Kasey finished 14th. Only 20 cars started the all-star race and only 10 of those finished.
