The Postal Service said Wednesday it wants to raise the price of a first-class stamp by 3 cents -- to 42 cents -- and proposed a "forever" stamp that people could use as a hedge against future rate increases.

I wonder if this forever stamp is just another way to increase revenue? Of maybe it's meant as a buffer against another rate increase after only a few months. I would not spend the extra money for a large number of forever stamps until another rate increase was announced.

Valla, you would not be paying more for the 'forever' stamps, they would cost the same as first class stamps today. Yes, it is possibly a way of increasing revenue but it can also help the consumer, especially those who use stamps a lot. They could purchase these 'forever' stamps in bulk, and not have to worry about future increases.
My personal opinion is to use your bank's bill-pay option as much as possible. Most US banks offer this service for free, and you can use bill-pay to pay anyone who has an address. We rarely send out bills by mail anymore.

Yes, I understood that. I only meant I wouldn't buy stamps I didn't need immediately, unless another rate increase came. I know I wasn't very clear about my meaning. I completely agree with you on the bill pay option. Just about the only reason I buy stamps is for a few Christmas cards.
