F.A. Cup

The FA Cup, or Football Association Challenge Cup, is the main knockout tournament in English Football. What is interesting and unique about the FA Cup tournament is that any eligible league team can enter, which means there can be a couple hundred teams involved in any one tournament. This year, there were 674 teams participating in the FA Cup. The final is tomorrow morning between Liverpool and West Ham United.

I remember while growing up, I would watch the FA Cup finals, and for some reason, it always seemed to be between Liverpool and Everton. Liverpool has won the Cup 6 times while Everton has won it 5 times, although their last win was in 1995. The FA Cup allows for non-Premiership teams to get an opportunity to knockout bigger teams from the Premiership for bragging rights, etc. However, more times than none, the good teams seem to surface to the top.

The way I understand it is this is only for the English teams. The tournament is going to be broadcast in the US on Pay Per View. How does this relate to the world cup, or does it at all? Will the english team be the best players or will the winner of this tournament get something special in regards to it, or is it just a separate tournament all together?

Konq, my man, good to see you interested in football! To answer your first question, this has nothing to do with the World Cup. The FA Cup is all about English league football, and is held annually. The World Cup involves actual countries, like the Olympics, and is held every 4 years. So, on an English league team, you may have players from all over the world.
The English World Cup team is assembled from the talent pool of players of English or British citizenship, some of which don't even play football in English league play.
The winner of the FA Cup is basically just that, nothing more, but it is a very prestigious trophy, just because of the sheer number of teams that participate in it. The FA Cup winner may not even be the best team in English league play; they just so happen to have made it all the way through the tournament.
I hope this answers your questions. Feel free to ask more, as you can see I like discussing it.

Cup FA

What a great game and an awesome comeback for Liverpool. After levelling the game 3-3 in the dying minutes, the Reds easily won the penalty shootout 3-1.

Steven Gerrard yet again highlighted why he is one of the best players in the world, stamping his authority on the game. Gerrard set up Cisse for Liverpool's first with an incisive defence splitting through ball.

This brilliance was matched by his second, a volley that rocketed into the roof of the net from just inside the box.

But it was Gerrard's equaliser in the dying seconds that will become FA Cup folklore. With the game seemingly out of reach, the complete midfielder latched onto a loose ball and fro over 30 meters out drilled an unstoppable torpedo into the bottom left had corner. It was pure magic.
