After 48 years kidnaped baby who was reunited with parents found not to be their child

Now, stay with me because this case is sort of complicated. In 1964, a baby by the name Paul Joseph Fronczak was kidnapped by a woman pretending to be a nurse. The woman was never caught. A year later, a a baby was found abandoned outside a variety store and authorities believed to be the kidnapped baby and he was reunited with his family. Well, this man always wondered why he didn't look anything like his parents and did a DNA test that confirmed that he is NOT Paul Joseph Fronczak. So right now, he is trying to help his adoptive parents find the real kidnapped baby as well as find out why his real mother abandoned him and who he is.

How did the authorities reach the conclusion that Paul Joseph Fronczak was the baby of this family AND more importantly how did the mother not recognize her own child? Maybe she was just full of grief and wanted to believe this was her baby? True a year had passed but mothers usually have this instinct.

It was back in 1964, they didn't have access to all the technology such as DNA as we have it now so I think they probably took the baby to the mother and she thought it was hers. It is so sad because after so many years, they don't know what happened with their baby and this almost 50 year old man does not know who he really is.
