I agree, my cat pretty much doesn't do anything, but he isn't stupid, just lazy. The question then becomes why the cat would chase something up the tree so obviously bigger and stronger than itself. Cats aren't normally so obliged to help anyone besides themselves, and running away would be the normal thing for a cat to do. My cat actually may not even move, it would just sit there while the bear mauled me then the cat!
