I was reading an article from ABCNews Nightline and could not help by asking the question here.

Hmm, I don't think that I could work on the Bomb Squad. I would have to have no family and live life on the edge every minute of every day. I do know that they make some pretty good money, but I don't think it would be enough money to pay for me losing a body part or even my life. I don't think there is enough money in the world for me to do that job.
YES,I could work for the bomb squad,no question in my mind.I say this because while I was in the marine corps. I was in demolitions/explosives.I will say it is dangerous, however perfect practice makes for perfect execution! I was never really nervous working on high explosives.
Once we were doing a LINE CHARGE shoot at camp pendleton(for those who don't know what that is:1750lbs of C4 explosive coiled into a trailer which is pulled behind a LAV,then it is shot out by rocket, and detonated, useful for clearing large minefields.)and the charge did not work,so we had a live charge on the field. The next step is to perform what we called a "purple heart run".Thats where we have to leave the safety of the LAV,and set the charge by hand! When they asked for volunteers I was the first to do it,however since I had a wife I was'nt allowed to go,someone else got to do it instead.
I realize not everyone can look death in the eyes everyday,as for me I guess you could say I get a "charge" out of it
Sorry, I couldn't help saying that.
I think that it takes a particular type of person to be on the bomb squad. You have to be either willing to die, or ready and unafraid to die to do it. You have to be able to accept that if you go out there, you may not come back. This bomb you are working on could kill you before you know its happening. I am not willing to lay down my life to diffuse a bomb with a wife and three kids. I just couldn't do it.
However, todays technology is leading the way towards humans no longer being in harms way. There are new robots that can diffuse certain bombs in certain situations now.
