This is PURELY my opinion.
I think that the new name in Revelation is different from anything else. I believe it has to do directly with the Celestial Kingdom, while the Temple is a place of instruction pointing towards the Celestial Kingdom, using earthly things, such as names.
The new name is an interesting subject. Unfortunately we cannot go to far into this subject here. In the Book of Revelation the new name has great significance. It may or may not be the same in the temple, but it carries the same points and understanding. In ancient times new names were given to initiates to such things mystery cults, rites of passages, and life changing events. It signifies a change in being and identity. The Catholic church does this as well with a new name given at Catechism. When a Pope dies he is called by his new name 3xs and if he does not answer he is then declared dead.
In the ancient world names have power. If one held your new name you were to have power over them, or ie authority. In the ancient world mystics and other sought out the name of God or the gods. When the name is known you inherited their power. That is what Moses asks of the Lord when he asks for his name. It was thought by some that Jesus did the mighty works, because he knew the name of God. In the Jewish temple the name of God was spoke by the high priest once a year to invoke redemption of Israel.
So by John saying that We will receive a new name invokes all of this ideas. We will have a new self or identity- and that new name will be the name of God we will inherit his power and majesties and authority that comes from such a gift. Unlike most gods in the ancient world, who held their name secret, Christ shares his, to those who will follow his plan of salvation.
In the temple we receive a new name after our washings and anointing signifying a change, and inheritance of the Lord.
