Virgin Mary Foretold

If you read the Bible exactly as written without supposing, or reading your own ideas into it, how can you possibly believe Genesis 3:15 foretells the virgin Mary?

God is talking to the serpant telling him there will be mutual hatred between him and mankind. What could this possibly have to do with a virgin birth 2000 years later?

This scripture was not interpreted this way until nearly 1500 years ago. When putting the finishing touches on church doctrine and dogma, there was a big search to see what in the old testament could back up what they already believed. This was one such scripture used to back that belief up.

Of course, the Jews have never considered this scripture to have anything to do with Messiah. It is a scripture that shows the reason that snakes fear us and we fear snakes. Its a life analogy that explains a specific life situation which of course is common in many religions but rarely acknowledged by readers of the bible.

I was told once that if you are doing research you can cherry pick and choose the facts you want to "prove" almost anything. I believe the Catholic church was really reaching when they decided Genesis 3:15 foretold a virgin birth 2000 years later.
