My daughter and I went to see "Hidalgo" on Saturday night. In the "trailers" for the movie that are on a couple of videos that we bought, it seemed like a kids movie, but it's rated PG-13 -- I didn't find that out until we got to theater.
It's a good movie, based on a real-life person, Frank Hopkins. He was a tortured soul, but he had a great horse -- Hidalgo. There is also a Native American theme, that was not evident in the previews, which is very good.
There is some violence, but it's not bloody and gory, mostly swashbuckling sword fights. It has a happy ending. I don't want to give away any of the movie -- you should see it.
I give it a B+

I finally got to check out Hidalgo last night and I loved it. It was much better than the movie trailers that I have seen. I'm already set to get it when it hits DVD later on this year. I would definitely go and see it again. The action scenes were really good and I loved how it ended too.
Hidalgo was an excellent movie. I took my daughter with me to see it. She cried during the part with Hidalgo out in the desert almost dying, and also at the end when he went with the other horses. There are also a lot of funny parts in the movie as well, plus adventure, so it is a good well-balanced movie. Hope I didnt give away too much for those who wanted to see it. Go see it anyway.
In 1890, a wealthy sheik invited an American, Frank T. Hopkins, and his horse to enter the race for the first time. During the course of his career, Hopkins was a cowboy and dispatch rider for the U.S. Cavalry - and had once been billed as the greatest rider the West had ever known. The Sheik puts his claim to the test, pitting the American cowboy and his mustang, Hidalgo, against the world's greatest Arabian horses and Bedouin riders - some of whom are determined to prevent a foreigner from finishing the race.
