I went along with someone that really wanted to see John Carter but from the moment it started to the end I was like this is totally ridiculous just too hard to digest but the kids in the cinema loved it with their "Oooos" and "Cool!" they had me rolling my eyes.
I can see why the movie flopped. John Carter may have been the inspiration to people like George Lucas, and other movie greats, but the series is unknown to most everyone, yet the movie almost assumes you know the character by not giving much background or a reason to care about John Carter. The story plot is not really original (if it was original when Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote it, it's not now, which taints the movie.).
