WASHINGTON (AP) - Former pitcher Roger Clemens has been indicted, accused of lying to Congress about using steroids. He faces charges of obstruction of Congress, making false statements and perjury. Ref. USAToday

U.S. District Court Judge Reggie Walton has declared a mistrial in the case of baseball legend Roger Clemens. Rusty Hardin, attorney for Clemens, had objected to the prosecution showing video at Clemens' perjury trial which Walton had specifically said was inadmissible unless it was brought up on rebuttal.

Walton said the prosecution should have modified the video that showed Rep. Elijah Cummings (D- Maryland) during a 2008 congressional hearing talking about a deposition from the wife of former New York Yankees player Andy Pettitte. Prosecutors want testimony from former teammates to add to the credibility of a key prosecution witness.

Clemens is facing charges of perjury, making false statements and obstruction of Congress about his alleged use of steroids and human growth hormone. The former all-star pitcher testified under oath before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee in 2008 that he never used illegal performance-enhan cing substances during his career. Famed baseball pitcher Roger Clemens was found not guilty Monday of lying to Congress during an investigation of steroid use among Major League players.

The case against Clemens involved one count of obstruction of Congress, three counts of making false statements and two counts of perjury. He was found not guilty on all counts. He was not charged with illicit use of performance-enhancing drugs, but his denial of such use was part of the case against him. Ref. CNN
