Death For Thinking About It

Consider the society humans live in now where lust is openly praised or even found noteworthy. Now, consider the following scriptures and the question that follows:

"Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: but I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already is his heart" (Matthew 5:27-28).

"And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbor's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death" (Leviticus 20:10).

Based on the above are many humans worthy of death?

It Thinking Death

Based on the scriptures you mentioned I know of no man that would live. Every young man or woman that I can even imagine has at one point or another lusted after an actor or actress or even a family friend of which was most likely married. This act even if done only in the heart as is stated is deserving of death. All man and woman shall perish. (in my humble opinion.)

Offtopic but,
Thankfully he/she that believes in the Son Jesus Christ shall not perish for their sin. He that had no sin became sin of all man and woman and died for us so that we that believe upon him will not die but have eternal life.

But you're taking those verses out of context!

In Leviticus it is listing the Jewish Laws.
In Matthew Jesus is saying that we all have sinned (And bwren verifies this) to show that all men sin and that all men fall short of the glory of God.

It Thinking Death

It is interesting to me that God's law changes depending on what book it is written in and who is breaking the law. These people thought about it, some lusted, some died, some just paid a few shekels and walked away, but when King David's second son was born to the same woman he lusted after the first time, God loved the child?

God said it was all right to seduce a virgin if your heart was in the right place, ...and you had the shekels.

QUOTE
When a man seduces a virgin who is not betrothed, and lies with her, he shall pay her marriage price and marry her. If her father refuses to give her to him, he must still pay him the customary marriage price for virgins. (Exodus 21:15)

QUOTE
A priest's daughter who loses her honor by committing fornication and thereby dishonors her father also, shall be burned to death.  (Leviticus 21:7)

QUOTE
If a man comes upon a maiden that is not betrothed, takes her and has relations with her, and their deed is discovered, the man who had relations with her shall pay the girl's father fifty silver shekels and take her as his wife, because he has deflowered her. Moreover, he may not divorce her as long as he lives. (Deuteronomy 22:28)

With all the wives and concubines King David had, it wasn't enough. He walked on the roof one day and saw a woman taking a bath. He found out who she was and slept with her. When she told him she had conceived, he ordered her husband to the front lines so he would be killed in battle. When the pregnant woman heard her husband was dead, she mourned for him, then became King David's wife and bore him a son.
QUOTE
And this thing which David had done, was displeasing to the Lord. (2 Kings 11:27)

So God dealt with David
QUOTE
Thus saith the Lord; Behold I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thy eyes and give them to thy neighbor, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.  For thou didst it secretly; but I will do this thing in the sight of all Israel, and in the sight of the sun. (2 Kings 12:11)

But then God forgave David except for one small detail.
QUOTE
Nevertheless, because thou hast given occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, for this thing the child, that is born to thee, shall surely die.  (2 Kings 12:14)

No devout religious person would question this, but I will. Was it necessary for God to kill an innocent child for the sin of the father? Was there no other way to teach David a lesson? No, the child had to die!

After the child died, it became obvious that David really was forgiven.
QUOTE
And David comforted Bethsabee his wife, and went in unto her, and slept with her: and she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon, and the Lord loved him. (2 Kings 12:24)

After David had been punished, God condoned his marriage to the wife of a man he had killed, and the next child of the marriage, and loved the child.
